What to eat in Hong Kong

Eating in Hong Kong can be a disaster for us if we do not know where to eat or what to eat.

How to eat econimicaly in Hong Kong
Food in Hong Kong is very expensive, but you can still spend wisely.

• In Hong Kong, 90% of their restaurants or cafe served special set for tea break or supper, tea break set start between 2pm to 5pm, and supper set start after 9pm.
• Packages during these 2 session are usually served in smaller portion with drinks and it cost around HKD18 to HKD25 per set, normally this amount of food is sufficient for our eating portion.
• They have many fast food chain store which also serving food in package (main course plus drink or soup), there are lots of selection in the store and their price range for breakfast wil be HKD20 to HKD25, Lunch - HKD25 to HKD35, Dinner - HKD28 to HKD45.
• The lunch & dinner set especially the dinner set is quite big portion, usually 2 ladies can share 1 set.

What to eat (what is the specialty for tourist to try in Hong Kong?)

• Roasted Goose (烧鹅)
• Yam Cha (饮茶)
• Fish Soup Noodle (鱼米汤)
• Teochew Fish Ball Noodle / 潮州鱼蛋粉
• Yun Nan Mi Xian / 云南米线 （酸辣/麻辣）
• Mini Sharksfin / 碗仔翅
• White Carrot or Internal Organs of Cow / 萝卜/牛杂 (Roadside Store)
• Durian PanCake / 榴莲Pancake
• 杨枝金露 (a mango juice with pamelo sacs)
• Egg Tart (蛋挞-港式/葡式)
• Chicken Tail Bun （鸡尾包)

• For Fast Food Chain Store or Cha Chan Teng/茶餐厅 (Average cost per set = HKD20 to HKD40)
• Maxims (美心)

• 鸡记潮州麺食 (尖沙嘴加拿芬道15号C地下)
• 香港仔潮州鱼蛋粉 (Many branches - few in Mongkok)
• Cafe De Coral (大家乐)

• For Mid Range Cafe (茶餐厅) - About HKD28 to HKD50 per person
• Tsui Wah / 翠华餐厅　(I reccommend the one at Central-behind Coach)
• Chan Kee / 陈记烧鹅 (main shop in ShamJieng /深井，2 branches in Mongkok) 
• Macau Restaurant/澳门茶餐厅 (I recommend the one next to Kowloon Park)

General Info for tourist to Hong Kong

For Tourist Whom are visiting Hong Kong

Transportation & Hotels....

Going to have a few batches of friends visiting Hong Kong soon and they were checking with me for a recommended itinerary for them to enjoy when they are here.

Basically Hong Kong is a heaven of many things as long as you bring enough cash to come, before i start putting up my recommendation of itinerary, i would like to share some shrt note here so that you guys can consider to mix & match on your own against my suggested itinerary.

Before i start anything, there is a very important tool that every tourist who plans to visit Hong Kong for more than 3 days must have. It is the OCTOPUS CARD!!

The Octopus Card
This is a wonderful tool to give us a cashless transaction at all public transportation, purchases at all convenient stores, even cinema tickets, and many shopping complexes.

The important thing is it gives aboout 10% discount on MTR ticket when you are travelling with the card, and also provide free MTR transit when you travel from airport by airport express

The only thing you have to pay attention is, there is a deposit of HKD50 in the card, and you can get it refund back when you return the card, a HKD7  will be retained as handling fees if your card is less than 3 months. If you will come back again within a year, i would suggest you keep your card till next trip.

You can purchase the card from the customer service counter at airport, or all MTR station, reload is available at same place above plus all convenient stores like 7-11, K-Kiosk, etc.


For Transporation to & fro airport
The are several ways for you to travel from airport to your hotels or vice versa.

• Airport Express (The express Train)

          It stopped at 3 stations only, Ching Yi, Kowloon & Hong Kong.
          Most of the major hotels especially around Hongham provide shuttle bus to their
          hotels,  but this transportation cost HKD100 per way (include free line transfer of MTR
          to your next destination)

          I personally do not favor this as the station usually is far from the hotel areas, i mean 
         those mid range hotels unless you need shorter time of travelling and it is costly,   
         walking from MTR station to the Airport express station is far even though we are
         walking underground, so it will be troublesome for those travellers with few luggages.

• City Flyer (Airport Express Bus)
• This is under City Bus company and there a a number of different rouute that they served to go different part of Hong Kong & Kowloon.
• This is the most convenient and economical way to transfer from airport to the town centre.
• It cost around HKD30 to HKD40 depending on your destinations. 
• Taxis
• Most convenient but most expensive means of transport.
• I had never try on this before, I think it cost easily HKD200 or over from airport to nearest spot in town.

Where to Stay
Hotels in Hong Kong is consider as one of the most expensive hotels in Asia. You may get cheap ones but you have to bear with the narrow space or the cleanliness of the environment. 

I had ever experience to stay in one hotel that i can't open the room door after i had my big luggage open on the floor. We have to adjust the space with our luggages whenever we move around the room.   

One of the most factor before you decide a hotel, it is betterr located near MTR station, this will help you save a lot of time & money when you are here.

• Average Budget to spend for hotel rooms on a normal season should be :
• 3 stars (about 2 to 3 stars in Malaysia) = HKD300 to HKD700 (depending on location)
• 4 stars (about 3 to 4 stars in Malaysia) = HKD600 to HKD1800 (depending on location)
• 5 stars (about 4 to 5 stars in Malaysia) = HKD1500 to HKD3000 (depending on location)
• I may be wrong on the above details but i should not be too far from it.
• Which location is best?
• For Mid Range and for shoppers :
• Kowloon area : Mongkok, Yaumatei, Prince Edward, Jordon
• Hong Kong Area : North Point, Tin Hao
• For High Range :
• Kowloon : Tsim Sha Tsui, Mongkok
• Hong Kong : WanChai, Causeway Bay, Admirty
• For Disneyland Tourist
• You may consider to purchase a 2D1N package with the hotelier in Disneyland before or after you finished your shopping in town, it will maximise your fun in disneyland then.

Travelling around the City
There are many kind of transportation that you can take when you move around the city.

• MTR (around HKD2.7 to HKD11?)
• Tram (HKD2.50. Hong Kong Island only, and every tourist should try at least once)
• Bus (about HKD3.7 to HKD8)
• Mini Bus (about HKD2.5 to HKD4)
• Taxis (They charge minimum from HKD16? or HKD20 cannot remember as i dont take taxi so often)

There are many books for local street map that are sold in the book shop, cost around HKD60 to HKD90, if you like to walk around on your own, you should get one for you to explore...many of it comes with MTR & bus route booklet too.

How it works :

This is a famous chain store restaurant having many branches around Hong Kong. The one i visited is just at the adjacent road near Hoi Pong Road/海防道 of Tsim Sha Tsui. If u travel by MTR, u should come out from exit A1 of Tsim Sha Tsui Station n make a right U-turn after exit.

As per the name of the shop, they sell mainly the Macau Cuisine, I have not try any of their main course meals as i usually eats their tea lunch set which taste good.

We tried below food....

Macau Egg Tart

Toasted Bun with Butter &
Peanut Butter

Pork Steak Bun (猪趴包)

Fried Kailan (清炒芥蓝)

The above dishes are all very delicious, it depends on your favorite taste, like my sister whom prefer to eat dryer or harsh food like chicken breast meat, she likes the Pork Chop Bun very much, whereas our friend likes Macau Egg Tart, then she enjoy the egg tart as well.

As for me, whom never like any of the 2 above, i think the Toasted bun is one of the best i ever tried in so many restaurants in Hong Kong. (of course there are still many for me to explore)

This shop serving Roast Duck too, but i think you can find many more other restaurants which serve better taste than this.

Average spending in this shop is about HKD30/pax for tea time and HKD40/pax for lunch or dinner time.

This price range is for you to order their package meals (which include main course and a drink), if you prefer to order side dish or individual dish outside the package meals, the budget / pax will be higher than what i mentioned earlier.

Kaohsiong/Taiwan - Bicyle Rental Service

Bicycle Rental Service in Kaohsiong
Travelling around Kaohsiong for tourists seems to be very convenient with this bicycle rental service around the city.
It says you can either use your credit card or their rental card which you can purchase in places like 7-11, the whole process takes not more than 10minutes to complete and you can pick up the bicycle from one placce and return it at the other destination.
Will have to try it out when i visit there one day. Have not try cycling during my travelling before.

Snack From Thailand- Banana Chips with Tamarind

Delicous Snack from Thailand : Banana Chips with Tamarind

Received 2 packets of souvenir from my sister in law whom is currently residing in Thailand due to brother in law's company assignment, it is banana chips with Tamarind.

Being a Malaysian whom had been eating banana chips since i was a kid, it is nothing special to take banana chips and in fact i don't like it, then until some years ago, those businessman invented dried fruits chips which became quite popular among the tourists' "Must Buy" list.But i also take it for just a short time before i got bored with it due to the plain taste.

Lately, i came across this delicious snack called : Banana chips with Tamarind through my sister in law, it struck me when i first tasting it. the combination of the 2 (banana & tamarind) is perfect! The sweetness of the banana blend well with the sour taste of the tamarind and it increase the appetite of a person, at least it is for me.

I can't stop eating it once i started, hence i want to share this with you guys through this blog.

When you visit Thailand the next time, do not forget to look for this snack to bring home...

The Sunrise & Sunset in Malaysia

I have a series of photos taken about the skies and sunrise & sunset of the places i visited, i may not compile enough so far, but will try to collect more beautiful pictures in future.

I would like to start with Malaysia, my home country where lots of beautiful beaches located.

In this video clip, it is mainly consist of places like KL (Kuala Lumpur) and 2 beautiful beaches located in Pangkor Island of Perak State and Kijal in Kemaman of Terengganu State.

There are still a lot of beautiful beaches in Malaysia that you should explore, to name a few, there are : Pulau Redang, Pulau Tioman, Pulau Lang Tengah, Pangkor Laut, Langkawi, and many more in Sabah of East Malaysia....Hope i can introduce more in future...

Woud like to share some photos that were taken during my visit to Tokyo & Towada Lake in Japan during 2007/Oct.

It took me quite some time to get familiar with this Picasa software to produce my 1st movie album, i wanted to tr it with Picasa instead of Window Movvie Maker simply just because Picasa present a much finer picture compare to Movie Maker.

It was in 2007 when i visited the two places, it was a very good and sweet memory where i was travelling with uncle & aunties of my husband. The country side of Japan like Hanamaki, Oirase, Towada Lake etc were so beautiful and quiet for a person to relax there. This is the main reason of why i like Japan than other places.
